Moving beyond social media for technical depth
I’ve noticed that most of the "knowledge sharing" on big social platforms has become very superficial lately. I really miss the era of dedicated message boards where a single thread could span months and actually solve a complex problem step-by-step. I’m trying to find active, moderated hubs for niche engineering and software topics. Does anyone have a reliable way to discover where the actual experts are hanging out these days? I’m looking for communities that value long-form, thoughtful discussion over quick likes.

I feel the same way. The "feed" format is great for news, but it's terrible for archiving actual solutions. When I started mapping out new communities for my research, I found that using a directory of forum backlink websites was a huge time-saver. It helped me skip the dead boards and find the ones that are still actively being used and moderated. It’s much easier than just guessing keywords in a search engine and hoping you don't hit a ghost town.
